The Peat bog museum is located in the Hochmoor Schrems natural park. The broad main entrance ramp is covered by blue photovoltaic panels. The architecture is dramatized by dark face concrete contrasting with the green environment. The most impressive element is the vertical communication area – deep dark shaft with a staircase. Limited daylight makes visitors feel as if they descend under ground. Though the building is mainly underground due to importance of direct contact with the environment it buds from earth thus allowing visitors to see the countryside. On the first floor entrance, exhibition area and facilities can be found. Offices, shops, lecture hall and dinghy port are on the middle floor with vivaria plus more exhibition rooms on the lowest floor.
